Dr. Matthew Kohler has been a leader in the field of Interventional Pain and Regenerative Medicine in Manhattan since he completed his post-doctoral training in 2016. Dr. Kohler did his residency in Anesthesiology and his fellowship in Pain Medicine at the prestigious Columbia University Medical Center, part of New York City’s top ranked New York Presbyterian Hospital system. He is double-board certified in Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine through the American Board of Anesthesiology. Following his training and prior to co-founding Ospina Medical, Dr. Kohler spent over three years honing his skills in one of Manhattan’s premier private practice medical groups as the Director of Regenerative Medicine.
Dr. Kohler has an undergraduate degree in Human Biological Anthropology from Emory University, which has provided him with a unique and comprehensive understanding of human form and function from an evolutionary and systems perspective. He then received his Medical Degree from the University of Virginia, one of the nation’s leaders in innovative and collaborative medical teaching and research. It is during his time at the University of Virginia that his core principles of engaging in the highest quality patient care, education, research, and service to the community were firmly instilled.
Dr. Kohler understands the need for a proven yet personalized treatment plan to help alleviate his patients’ suffering. He generally encourages a holistic and conservative approach whenever possible to help improve his patients’ quality of life while minimizing risks. Through continued post-graduate education in regenerative medicine with the Interventional Orthobiologics Foundation and participation with the Regenexx network, Dr. Kohler is positioned to provide his patients with the most advanced and evidence-based orthobiologic therapies available. Additionally, his extensive training in ultrasound- and fluoroscopy-guided spine and joint interventions gives him a unique skillset to provide focused and precise treatments exactly where his patients need it.
Due to his desire to give his patients the best possible outcomes and truly provide the most comprehensive and tailored care, Dr. Kohler has also undergone additional education in genomics-based personalized medicine. This gives him unique insight in how to optimize his patients’ health prior to any treatments and give them the tools to stay healthy and prevent further re-injury or degeneration.
In his free time Dr. Kohler enjoys attending concerts and art galleries, trying different New York City restaurants, traveling abroad, and maintaining an active lifestyle.
