Blogging From the Caymans Again…

Here I am again, as I am three times a year, down in beautiful Grand Cayman. Why? Because the licensed culture expansion site here allows me to use more advanced stem cell care in some of my patients.

PRP vs. Stem Cells

About 90% of what I prescribe for the patients I see is a platelet based treatment. Why? Because it’s my job to offer the cheapest and least invasive treatment that may work. However, about 10% of the time, based on my experience, the patient needs a stem cell based treatment. A handful of those need culture-expanded stem cells.

What’s The Difference Between a Same Day and Cultured Stem Cell Procedure?

To understand that difference, watch my quick video below:

What is Regenexx Cayman?

Our licensed stem cell site in Grand Cayman is pretty special. It’s a world-class facility on a first-world Carribean island known for banking and hedge funds. I’ve watched over the last 10 years as the island has been developed. From Camana Bay to the now multiple luxury resorts on 7-mile beach, Cayman gets prettier every trip:

We Have Treated Some Famous Athletes Down Here

The last time I was here, I treated Ryan Tannehill, he talks about that below:

Ryan is one of the many NFL athletes that have their cells stored at the Grand Cayman facility. Why? They can bank them at their current biologic age and use them as they get on in their careers.

The Three Reasons We Take a Few Patients to Grand Cayman

There are three conditions when we take patients to Cayman:

  1. The medical condition doesn’t do well with a same day stem cell procedure. For example, moderate to severe hip arthritis or a chronic disc bulge pressing on a nerve are two such problems.
  2. The patient has too many areas that need to be treated with stem cells. Since the cells are grown to greater numbers, we can treat more areas.
  3. The patient wants to save cells for future use without having to go through another bone marrow aspiration.

The upshot? Grand Cayman is a special place where I can deliver more advanced care to the few patients that need it. It’s also a very beautiful place to hang out!
