Regenexx Alternatives For Lingering Pain After Surgery

At Active Life Physical Medicine & Pain Center in Phoenix, Arizona, many individuals visit us with continued discomfort following back surgery. Common procedures such as discectomy may decrease disc stability, while fusion surgeries, where two or more vertebrae are permanently joined, can increase stress on nearby spinal segments. This often contributes to a condition called adjacent segment disease, which can lead to further degeneration and the potential need for additional surgery.

What’s more concerning is that surgical outcomes are not always favorable. In some studies, spinal fusion surgery outcomes have been found comparable to placebo (sham) procedures. Up to 25% of patients report complications following fusion. One study showed that 76% of individuals continued to use narcotics post-surgery and missed three times more work than those who did not undergo surgery.

Physicians within the licensed Regenexx network at our Phoenix location use advanced imaging guidance to precisely deliver customized orthobiologic procedures. These include the use of your body’s own platelets or bone marrow-derived cells, prepared using Regenexx lab processes. Treatment plans are tailored to address the full spine and the underlying contributors to post-surgical pain.

Procedures using Regenexx injectates may help:

  • Target inflammation in areas adjacent to a spinal fusion
  • Support irritated nerves
  • Improve spine stability
  • Reduce reliance on pain medications

As the medical director and founder of Active Life Physical Medicine and Pain Center, Innovative Surgery Center, and Regena Spa, Dr. Lundquist has great enthusiasm toward regenerative medicines and a special interest in sports medicine and pain. She loves her work and feels blessed to be entrusted to help patients by alleviating painful ailments.

Her desire is to uncover methods that are more healing and less of a “band aid,” which has led her to become a leader in regenerative medicine technologies. She feels strongly about the importance of seeking methods to help alleviate pain on every level – holistically.

Originally a massage therapist and, later, an osteopath, she has a strong foundation to alleviate patient’s pain. She is a “hands on” physician who implements osteopathic techniques when appropriate with other tools.

She is dual board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation along with pain management, as well as a diplomat with the American Board of Pain Medicine.
