Dr. Ra’Kerry K. Rahman is a world-class expertly-trained orthopedic spine surgeon. Founder and lead surgeon at Houston Scoliosis & Spine Institute with locations in Houston, Pasadena, Baytown, Humble, El Paso, and Laredo, Dr. Rahman provides patients with comprehensive musculoskeletal solutions. In addition to serving patients with endoscopic, minimally-invasive, robot-assisted and open surgery options, Dr. Rahman believes many conditions can be successfully treated with regenerative medicine and tissue regeneration. Houston Scoliosis & Spine Institute offers a comprehensive array of orthopedic treatments and procedures including prolotherapy, PRP, platelet derived growth factors and bone marrow concentrate (which contain stem cells).
EDUCATION
Dr. Rahman earned his Doctorate of Medicine with Honors & Distinction in Research in 2005. He received numerous first-place research awards, including the Wilbert C. Jordan Research Forum Basic Science Award and the Process of Discovery Award and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honors society.
This distinguished education was followed by an orthopedic residency at New York Presbyterian Hospital at Columbia University where he served as chief resident from 2009-2010. During this residency he won the Orthopaedic Research Education Foundation (OREF) resident grant. This prestigious grant was one of only fifteen awarded nationally.
Following his residency, Dr. Rahman elected to take a special fellowship in cervical spine and spinal deformity at Washington University with some of the world’s leading spine surgeons, including Dr. Lawrence (Larry) Lenke and Dr. Keith Bridwell (spinal deformity), and Dr. Dan Riew (cervical spine surgery) at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
After this exceptional training, Dr. Rahman served as Chief of Adult Spinal Deformity and as a pediatric scoliosis specialist at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine. He was also an Assistant Professor of Spinal Surgery. He returned to Washington University to complete Dr. Larry Lenke’s Complex Spinal Deformity Advanced Apprenticeship. This apprenticeship focused on the most complex pediatric and adult spinal deformity cases. Dr. Rahman was voted Best Faculty Instructor two years in a row for the PASE course, “Cervical Decompression and Stabilization” and was also the keynote address speaker at the annual White Coat Ceremony at the University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry in 2004. Dr. Rahman is a member of Scoliosis Research Society(SRS), Cervical Spine Research Society (CSRS), American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS), Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society(AOA), Global Spine Outreach (GSO) and Harris County Medical Society.
